KALEIDOSCOPE GRIEF CENTER
                          Serving Children & Families

Our History

Cecilia Troppoli and Dr. Theresa Travis established Hospice Home Care in 1992.  Cecilia Troppoli currently serves as the Executive Director and Dr. Theresa Travis serves as Medical Director.  In 1996, Troppoli and Travis founded Kaleidoscope Kids to address the specialized hospice care required by children and we became incorporated as a 501(c)3, non-profit corporation and received licensure and approval to become Arkansas’s only children’s hospice.  Troppoli and Travis continue their dedication to the children today and are both active members on the board of directors of Kaleidoscope Kids.

Through providing the medical and palliative care for the child, we recognized that the unique needs and concerns of these children and their families begin before the decision is made to focus on end-of-life care and place a child in hospice.  Kaleidoscope Kids added to its mission that we would serve children from birth through the age of 18 years with a life-limiting or terminal illness and serve children experiencing the imminent death of a loved one.

Kaleidoscope Kids began receiving hospice referrals and requests for assistance from our clinical staff to help the children of their deceased patients.  These children needed someone to help them through their grieving process.  The Kaleidoscope Kids mission again grew to include the provision of a safe environment for bereaved children and teens to express their grief and to develop healthy coping skills.

After careful review of our goals and objectives and the needs of our families, in 2005 the board of directors of Kaleidoscope Kids determined that because the existing hospice industry in central Arkansas could serve the needs of our small number of hospice patients, we would focus all of our resources on the psychosocial needs of the families.  The concentrated priority of Kaleidoscope Kids became and continues to be serving the needs of critically ill and grieving children, teens and their families through their life-changing journeys.

Continuing the tradition of adapting our services to the ever-changing and growing needs of our families, in 2007 Kaleidoscope Kids initiated Arkansas’s first grief camp, Camp Healing Hearts and has recently added a Peer Support Bereavement program for grieving children and their families that meets twice monthly at the Kaleidoscope offices.

As we enter 2008, we adopted a logo and name change to more accurately reflect the scope of care we offer to our clients.  We are excited to announce we are now Kaleidoscope Grief Center.
