Kaleidoscope Grief Center
10th Annual Healing Hearts Auction
September 12,
2008
Nine-year old Suzy probably doesn’t look that different to you. She could be one of your neighbor’s children; she may be playing in the park. But there is one big difference – her dad died right before her very eyes. Just imagine… Suzy’s dad was driving her to a friend’s birthday party on a sunny Saturday afternoon, when out of nowhere a tractor trailer slammed into the driver’s side killing him instantly. Suzy escaped with barely a scratch, but her scars will last a lifetime. No child should ever have to face the death of a parent. But they do. We help Suzy, and children just like her every day. The most serious and influential loss a child can face is the death of a parent. Without intervention, their grief is complicated to the degree that 85% of these kids will exhibit such troubling symptoms as sleep disturbance, aggression, anxiety, regression, and childhood depression. Over half the children that come to Kaleidoscope Grief Center for help have lost a parent and nearly 100,000 Arkansas children will experience this loss before they reach adulthood. Others have lost siblings or other loved ones. Whether their dad died serving his country in Iraq, their mom died quietly after a long battle with breast cancer, or they watched as their sister died of a gunshot wound, or they escaped the house fire that killed their brother, these children and the adults that love them need our help. Kaleidoscope Grief Center focuses exclusively on children and families, and their process of healing through their grief journeys. We do this by providing innovative and dynamic services ranging from traditional grief counseling, ongoing Peer Support Bereavement Groups, and grief camp – all at no charge to Arkansas families. These programs further our mission to serve the needs of critically ill and grieving children, teens, and their families, but we cannot do it alone. Kaleidoscope Grief Center is a non-profit charitable organization. We receive no government grants or subsidies… we rely entirely on private support from people like you! Look into your heart. Then make as generous a contribution as you can. Any size gift you make will be appreciated. On behalf of Suzy and all of our Kaleidoscope Kids, I thank you for your compassionate response and look forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely, How can you help? Kaleidoscope Grief Center's 2007 9th Annual Auction Huge Success! In healing hearts through life and loss, our mission at Kaleidoscope Grief Center is to serve seriously ill and grieving children, teens, and their families through their life changing journey. We are thrilled to announce that Kaleidoscope Grief Center's services and programming will continue to thrive and grow thanks to the unprecedented success of our 9th Annual Auction hosted Friday, September 14th, 2007 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. Revenue more than doubled over the past two years and our 9th Auction exceeded the already ambitious goal by $10,000.00! Due to so many new supporters, attendance jumped 75% over last year! The beautifully appointed ballroom was decorated with children’s silhouettes, beautiful flowers, twinkling lights and candles in shades of red and black. Table after table held silent and live auction items to delight everyone from travelers to art enthusiasts to those in need of a delicious meal and some pampering! Complimentary cocktails, delectable heavy hors d’oeuvres, and live jazz made the evening particularly enjoyable. We extend a heartfelt thanks to all who made item donations and sponsored this year’s celebration. We know that our Auction would not be possible without the generosity of presenting sponsors Hospice Home Care and Hospice Home Care Foundation and our growing community of supporters and those who celebrated with us and participated in the bidding. The Kaleidoscope Kids Christmas Caroling Party, always a favorite, brought $500.00 in proceeds at last year’s auction. The passionate enthusiasm of professional auctioneer Jay Atkins, combined with the smiles and hearts of the Kaleidoscope Kids children proved one of this year’s auction’s many highlights as the crowd watched the Caroling Party close with a final bid of almost $2,000.00! Board member and Today’s THV chief meteorologist Ed Buckner splendidly performed Master of Ceremonies duties and introduced our new promotional video featuring testimonials and highlights of our programming. We are particularly honored to have presented Arkansas First Lady Ginger Beebe as our special guest speaker. Beebe spoke of the crucial nature of volunteerism to continue the important work that we do and no one understands better than we that this auction was made a success by the inspiring and tireless efforts of our amazing volunteers! As the needs of the Kaleidoscope Grief Center's families grow, so do the finances required to serve them. This annual fundraiser enables us to not only provide established programming, but to offer new services such as 2007’s ongoing Peer Support Bereavement Groups and our recently held Camp Healing Hearts. All programs and services are offered regardless of a family's ability to pay. With the sustained support of our sponsors, donors, and volunteers we look forward to continued success as we meet the needs of our families.
